Ambulance Picnic - 60 000 at Suttons Beach in the 1930's
The annual Ambulance Picnic was held at Suttons Beach in the 1930s and large crowds were common for the event that attracted tourists and day trippers from all over South East Queensland. Crowds visiting Suttons Beach to watch the competition were upwards 50 000 for the events held between 1935 and 1938. Margate Theatre 1940-62
Margate Theatre was built by Alex Smith in 1940 at 47 Ernest St (corner of Ernest and Albert St) and its first screening was on March 23rd Easter Saturday 1940 It was a popular venue for movies, ball, and concerts for over 22 years.
