The Scarborough Hotel was originally called the Bay View Hotel with Sir Samuel Walker Griffith (later premier of Queensland) as one of the original shareholders. Built in 1878 with 150 feet (45.67m) of verandahs at the front and sides, the hotel was one of the first structures to be built on the Peninsula. In 1882, John Harrop Henzell brought land at the site now known as 99 Marine Parade and built one of the first of the first houses on the Redcliffe Peninsula which he called simply “Seabrae”, brae being a Scottish word meaning ‘a hillside’. In 1909 it was purchased by Mary Stevens ,who turned it into a popular boarding house, and in 1922 a large extra wing and tennis court were added to the popular site. Originally built in the 1890’s for Mrs Jamieson, the building was originally used as a boarding house. In 1902 Thomas and Mary Snook then purchased 54 acres of prime waterfront real estate including the Boarding House building for £38 10s. Great Western/Filmers Palace Hotel history
Robert Scott had purchased 24 acres in the vicinity from the Crown in 1864 for £24/5/- At first the hotel was called the St. Leonards Hotel named after the local estate. The land was subdivided in 1883 the name changed to the Great Western in 1886. Several licensees had run the Hotel before it was destroyed by fire in 1907. The new Palace Hotel was built in 1909. Lorneleigh Pictures and Guest House at Woody Point.
The Lorneleigh is a guest house located at St Leonards St (Now Alfred St) at Woody Point and was built by W.S. Martin in 1890. Travelling picture shows had been around in Redcliffe since 1906, and had been shown in local guest houses in the summer holiday season.
