Norm and Liz Alcock

Updated: Jun 6

Long term Redcliffe residents Lion Norm and Lioness Liz Alcock have a long history of supporting the community through the Lions Club of Redcliffe Central, District 201 Q 3 and Lions Australia. Lion Norm joined Lions in June 1988, and has held all club board positions (including President on 8 occasions and Treasurer 13 years and counting and contributes consistently on projects the club undertakes to assist the Redcliffe community.

He became a Life Member in June 2021 Norm was District Governor in 2000/2001, and has held many other District positions. For the past decade (2025), he has been our Constitution and Bylaws Chair, and many people rely on his wise counsel for a vast range of matters regarding their club. Prior to that, Norm undertook a three-year stint as District Leadership Development Chair, helping members to fostering a much deeper understanding of the Lions organisation and how to lead it through his learning activities.

At the national level, Norm has had responsibility for Leadership Development, has overseen our Marketing and Fundraising Committee (responsible for many of our Foundations and major national fund-raising activities).

He is currently the Chair of Audtralian Lions Hearing Dogs (soon to be Lions Assistance Dogs) at a time when they are expanding the types of assistance dogs they provide, increasing their output and building a new training centre. Lioness Liz passed away on the 18h of December 2020.

Not only was the loss of this lovely lady deeply felt by those who knew her, but we also lost a powerhouse within the Redcliffe Central Lioness Club, contributing as President on 10 occasions and in a variety of other Board positions, and was involved in many community activities. As with Norm, Liz joined in 1988.

At District level, Liz served on Cabinet for 20 years, variously Chairing the Australian Lions Children's Mobility Foundation, Lions Children of Courage and Lions Services for Children. She was also the District Lioness Chair, providing support, ideas, and assistance to all District Lioness Clubs, a role she also undertook nationally.

As often seems the case with Lions’ couples, Norm and Liz, partners for decades, also formed a formidable duo with an unrelenting drive to serve their community.

Individually, Norm and Liz contributed significantly to the organisation over a long period of time, but together they had a synergy that outstripped their individual efforts, working hard for the organisation and encouraging others to perform to the best of their ability.

Norm carries on with seemingly boundless energy, no doubt contributing to Lions for many years to come.

Norm and Liz Alcock are listed on the wall of the Redcliffe Wall of Fame:
